What is a scholar?

A scholar is a learned or knowledgeable person who is an expert in a particular field, subject or discipline. Scholars are often associated with higher education institutions such as universities and are recognized for their contributions to research, academic writing and teaching. They are individuals who have spent a significant amount of time studying a particular topic and have gained mastery in that discipline.
